In this episode we talk about why the Valley desperately needed an urgent care system for our pets and how we as a community are doing when it comes to animal care and wellness. We asked her why the Valley has such a big stray animal problem and what we can do to change it. We also talked about pet myths and some of the things we can do to make the Valley a happier place for our dogs and cats. S4.EP19 - Robert Treto, Sr. - Living Through Hurricane Beulah in 1967
One of the Rio Grande Valley’s major moments of history happened in September 1967: the infamously catastrophic Hurricane Beulah.
Robert Treto, Sr. was a teenager living in Harlingen, Texas - an area directly hit by the storm. Working in the Engineering department at a local hospital, he was tasked with helping keep the hospital running and keeping staff members safe.
Hurricane Beulah devastated large parts of Mexico, the Eastern Caribbean, and South Texas. It still is one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit South Texas on record and the force of its impact lives on in the memory of the locals who survived it. Huge thank you to Mr. Treto for taking the time to share his story with us and for his contributions to the relief efforts in Cameron County.
