6 Simple Steps To Start A Podcast With No Audience In 2025
In this article, we show 6 simple steps how to start a podcast with no audience in 2025. If you follow these steps, you WILL grow your podcast audience fast, even from your first episode.
Congratulations on your goal to launch a new podcast!
You are on your way to having your own media show that combines both radio and if you have a video podcast, your own TV show! As you have heard in other podcasts, you can have an all-talk show. You can play all music. You can do a combination of both. It all depends on one thing: your audience and what they want.
Don't let the fact that you have no audience stop you from moving forward. Every podcaster started with no audience. Through all of your episodes and marketing, you will build your audience one member at a time. Before you know it, you'll have thousands of people listening to every episode. Check out our blog post on how to get people to binge-watch every episode.
Here are the steps that explain how to start a podcast with no audience:
- Come up with a theme or category for your podcast that will resonate with your intended audience.
- Figure out the demographics of your audience, including age group, gender, and other characteristics that make up your audience members.
- Create a quick, simple outline on what content your episodes will contain.
- Install a podcast recording software like Audacity or even a voice recorder app for your phone.
- Buy a microphone or plan on using your smartphone.
- Decide two of the popular social networks that you will utiluze to promote your podcast.
1 Come up with a theme or category for your podcast.
You probably already have one in mind. This is usually the first thing that podcasters know before starting their podcast. We suggest coming up with a category or scene that you're really passionate about. Your passion will drive your choice of your episodes as well. Most of all, have fun! Podcasting. A lot of podcasters do get burned out after a while. I believe the reason is because they don't come up with an idea for their podcast that meets their passion. You know how often you like to talk about those things you love. They should be the center of what your entire podcast. Your audience will pick that right up. If you're not passionate about your topic, your audience will pick that up and they won't binge watch your episodes or even subscribe. Jot down on Google docs or a piece of paper what your podcast will be about. If you want to grow fast, think about your audience. You need to be aware of what type of episodes your audience will want. Your podcast will address their pain points and they will subscribe and listen more to your episode. In sales they say that we need to sell the solution to our customers pain points. That means that whatever problems they have, your product is going to solve it. That also applies to your podcast. Although you're not selling anything, your podcast will still still solve the pain points of your audience members. A good place to start is with your own pain points. Ask yourself what frustrates you. Then talk about the solutions you already know to resolve those frustrations. Your solutions will probably also resonate with your audience members as they may have the same pain points.2 Figure out the demographics of your audience, including age group, gender, and other characteristics that make up your audience members.
One mistake that new podcasters make is not knowing what characteristics that audiences have and this is a very important thing to do. Before starting your podcast. We call this demographics. You may have heard this term mentioned in marketing and census surveys. New podcasters make the mistake of thinking that everybody out there is their audience members. That simply is not true. It is possible that every awnings member can listen to your podcast, but depending on your content or topic, it might not resonate with them if they don't match your intended demographics. Demographics includes the characteristic makeup of each audience member. That can include the age group of your audience, the gender of your audience, and maybe even the language that they speak. Other demographic characteristics include social class, education, and sometimes even race. This is important to know, because your podcast content could be centered around these demographics. In combination with your topic. For this reason it is possible that you can have a podcast that doesn't resonate with the audience members, because it doesn't match the demographics. They will drive your exact content. An example of your demographics for your intended audience would be that if you have a sports podcast, possibly a baseball podcast. Ask yourself who is into baseball. I would probably think it would be 75% men, between the age groups of 25 to 65 all races. Note that I said 75%. Your gender could be a percentage of all genders. Also take into consideration the LGBTQ community where there are over 15 different types of genders. Another example is if you have an entrepreneurship podcast. They are podcasts hosted by women for female entrepreneurs. Their episodes are going to be geared more towards women than men. That's your demographic for the gender of this type of podcast. The age group would probably be around 30 and older. Your podcast episodes for this female entrepreneurship podcast would probably center around that demographic. Honestly, if you are targeting female audience members but your podcast sounds like it is made for men, then you won't grow. You also may consider psychographics. This term refers to the lifestyle of your audience members. What type of lifestyle does your audience have? You can also make your podcast topic And episodes to match both the psychographics and the demographics. Psychographics include, but are not limited to:- sexual orientation
- hobbies like watching sports or traveling
- what type of food do they eat
- What type of music they like
3 Make an outline to plan your episodes ahead of time.
Omitting or ignoring this step is one of the reasons why podcasters burn out fast. It's not hard to plan episodes ahead of time, but that's not what most podcastsers do. Most podcasters will create each episode after the last episode without any plan for the future episodes. This can cause you immediately to stop podcasting and get frustrated with coming up for a lack of content. Your outline can be very simple. It can have numbers with your next 20 episodes. Here's an example off and outline for my upcoming episodes become a successful podcaster.- Upcoming episodes for become as accessible podcast

- Podcast SEO. How podcasters can get high rankings on Google
- Perfect social media marketing plan for your podcast in 2025

4 Install your podcast recording software, or use your phone to record
Once you have an outline completed. You're ready to record. You have the plan and now you are free to pick an episode. You can download Audacity. It's the most popular podcasting recording software and it's free. Audacity makes it easy to edit your podcast. It looks like a tape recorder. Then all you have to do is hit the Record button. You do have to get a microphone though and this can be a small investment of between $50 to $100 USD.5 Decide on the microphone or use your phone
If you don't want to pay for a microphone, you can always use your phone. However, be aware that your phone might not sound as professional as a podcast mic. Check my video out on seven podcast microphones that I reviewed. The Anchor app, which is owned by Spotify, allows you to record right through your phone. Depending on your audience, recording on your phone might not be feasible. If your audience members belong to a higher class and your podcast is anywhere in the category from technology to business to finance. It's a good idea to invest in the microphone as your audience in these categories will expect quality sound from your podcast. If your podcast however, is comedy or entertainment or any type of topic where you are being silly or putting out silly content then the phone might not be such a bad idea. We leave that choice up to you, but if you want to grow your podcast audience from zero, it's best to know the type of sound quality that they are expecting.6 Our final and sixth step is to pick two social networks where your audience members will hang out.
Don't just promote your podcast on TikTok if your audience is on LinkedIn. Likewise, don't just put out Instagram stories if your audience members are on Facebook. While you do your demographic and psychographic research. It's also a good idea to know where your audience is hanging out on social media. Join other podcasting groups on all the social networks and ask around at those social media works to grow their audience. They are podcasting groups on every social platform but the most popular ones are podcasters or on Facebook and LinkedIn. They will tell you if you need to be on other platforms like TikTok, X, and Instagram. In conclusion
We went over the 6 important steps that you need to follow when creating a podcast with no audience. If you follow these steps, your audience will build very quickly with each and every episode. The important thing to know is to have a lot of fun. Be entertaining to your audience and encourage them to listen to every episode and come back for more. As a bonus tip, a seven step is to podcast on the same day of the week. After a while, your audience will start to expect your podcast on a certain day of the week. Be consistent when publishing your podcast episodes and your audience will grow exponentially. Also read blog posts from the past 6 months for podcasters
